Delcy Rodríguez to Discuss Prisoner Releases in Call with UN Human Rights Chief
The Acting President of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, will hold a telephone dialogue today with the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk.
This was announced last Friday during the launch of the Program for Democratic Coexistence and Peace, which seeks to promote spaces for coexistence, tranquility, and harmony among all Venezuelans.
Call for UN Verification of Release Lists
Rodríguez stated she will ask the UN official, through his office, to verify the lists of prisoner releases in Venezuela.
"Enough with the lies; there must be responsibility in the exercise of politics," she emphasized, pointing out they are tired of extremist and fascist individuals who "only seek to harm our country."
Announcement of New Prisoner Releases
As part of the political process the nation is undergoing, Rodríguez also announced the release of 626 individuals deprived of liberty, a process initiated by constitutional President Nicolás Maduro last December with the liberation of nearly two hundred people.
She explained that there are anti-political sectors that have not understood the moment and persist in manipulating and maneuvering with figures through lies and falsehoods.
Principles and Scope of the Release Process
The Acting President declared on January 14th that the release of individuals deprived of liberty was led by President Maduro, under the principle of "opening spaces for understanding, coexistence, and tolerance."
That process "has not yet concluded and remains open," and is what has been coordinated with all judicial bodies in the country, she stressed.
She specified that this procedure excluded individuals linked to serious crimes against persons, such as homicide and drug trafficking, and evaluated those associated with violations of the constitutional order, hate, violence, and intolerance.
Goal of Opening Political Spaces
She stated that the objective "is to open political spaces," and the message is very clear to a Venezuela that is opening itself to a new political moment, allowing understanding from divergence and from political and ideological diversity, but it must be with respect for others and for human rights."
Messages of hate and intolerance in acts of violence will not be permitted, and compliance with the law will be strict, she emphasized.
Denunciation of Exploitation and Falsehoods
She denounced that there will always be those who want to "fish in troubled waters," alluding to Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) that collude to charge relatives for the freedom of kin and friends and have sought to sell and offer falsehoods to the world about Venezuela.
Also, the Secretary-General of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela, Diosdado Cabello, clarified that this process is purely unilateral and dismissed any implication of NGOs.
