China today rejected statements by U.S. politicians regarding the ties between Central American countries and Beijing, considering that they distort bilateral cooperation and reflect ideological prejudices and a Cold War mentality.
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Guo Jiakun stated that China firmly opposes U.S. political figures interfering in the normal exchanges between China and Central American nations.
Spokesperson Denounces Accusations as "Lies and Fallacies"
Guo noted that accusations of alleged Chinese coercion, pressure, or interference in the region are "lies and fallacies" that merely project the ideological biases of some U.S. politicians.
The spokesperson emphasized that China maintains its cooperation with Central American countries based on principles of mutual respect, equality, shared benefit, openness, and inclusiveness.
Cooperation Brings Tangible Benefits, China Asserts
According to Guo, this cooperation has yielded tangible benefits for the peoples of the region and has been well received by the involved governments.
Guo pointed out that China urges U.S. politicians to stop manipulating issues related to Beijing and to take actions that contribute to regional development and prosperity.
The statements were made in response to questions regarding recent visits by U.S. legislators to Panama and other Central American countries, following the publication of the new U.S. National Security Strategy.
