Matanzas, Cuba, Aug 16 (Prensa Latina) Prime Minister Manuel Marrero called in Matanzas on Saturday to increase food production, an aspect that he considered fundamental in the implementation of Cuba's economic strategy.
'We have to sow more to obtain higher productions, in addition to overcoming obstacles that may arise in the work of the agricultural sector, which requires deep transformations and a close relationship with the food industry,' the prime minister stressed.
Marrero reflected on the tense financial situation created in the country by Covid-19 and the tightening of the United States blockade against Cuba, 'and we cannot think much about imports, and produce more food for human consumption and animal feed.'
The top official highlighted the importance of complying with agricultural commitments to meet industrial orders and be linked with tourist centers, 'a strength when the international tourism restarts activities.'
Marrero insisted on keeping alert to fight the Covid-19 pandemic and guarantee the compliance with health measures such as hand waashing, physical distancing and the use of facemask by families and in workplaces.
