Cuban president praises intellectual’s contribution to national culture

In a post on X, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel highlighted the writer and essayist Abel Prieto's contributions to Cuban culture and his promotion of cultural decolonization, which earned him the International Award “Fernando Ortiz”
In his congratulatory message, the head of state praised Mr. Prieto’s intellectual leadership both in Cuba and Ibero-America and assured that the recognition granted to the also-president of Casa de las Américas is grounds for celebration and joy in the island.
According to a note from the Union of Cuban Writers and Artists (UNEAC), Mr. Abel Prieto deserved this award for his lifetime's work and contribution to socio-cultural studies and to the promotion of popular cultures and social sciences.
