Havana, April 21 (RHC)-- Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel has called to maintain the risk perception on the COVID-19, despite the country's progress in its control.

On his official Twitter account, the Cuban president said that predictions point to a decrease in the number of cases, despite the appearance of new variants of SARS-Cov-2, the virus that causes the disease, is not ruled out. The head of state added to his message an article from the Granma newspaper on the results of the usual government meeting with experts and scientists linked to science and technological innovation activities to confront COVID-19.

At the meeting, Dr. Raul Guinovart, dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science of the University of Havana, stated that a decrease in the number of confirmed cases and hospitalized patients is expected for the next 10 days. It was also reported that a study carried out in March 2022 in all provinces revealed that 4.6 percent of the total sample had an inadequate perception of risk of getting sick, while 64.3 percent had an average perception and 31.2 percent had an adequate approach.

During the meeting, it was reported that Cuba already has 27 reference laboratories, built in record time, which can now be used for the surveillance of other diseases when necessary. For his part, the head of the Ministry of Public Health, José Ángel Portal Miranda, said that in the last 14 days, 6,549 people were diagnosed as positive cases of COVID-19, for an incidence rate of 59.1 per 100,000 inhabitants. The provinces that maintain the highest indicator are Mayabeque, Ciego de Avila and Camagüey.
