The Cuban diplomatic mission in Kazakhstan held a poetry evening dedicated to the 31st anniversary of bilateral relations, the ambassador of the Caribbean country in Astana, Oscar Santana, said.
 
The senior diplomat, speaking exclusively to Prensa Latina, said that members of the “Avangard” Creative Association, the “Astana Polytechnic” High School and the Kazakhstan-Cuba Friendship Association took part in the important cultural event.

According to Santana, the “Avangard” group, formed by Kazakh poets of different generations, was in charge of reading works of Cuban intellectuals, such as: José Martí, Julián del Casal, Regino Boti, Rubén Martínez Villena, Eliseo Diego, Navarro Luna, José Zacarías Tallet and Roberto Fernández Retamar.

During the evening, homage was paid to the work of the Cuban national poet, Nicolás Guillén, whose poem “Tengo”, which expressed the joy of Cubans after the triumph of their Revolution, was heard in his own voice.

The ambassador said that it was pleasant to have the presence of the young generation of Kazakh friends, who also performed musical and written works from Cuba, Kazakhstan and the former Soviet Union, said the head of the Caribbean mission in Astana.

Among the guests of the evening were Doctor of Philology Asima Ishanova, Kazakh internationalist fighter Kazkev Dangulov, and president of the Kazakhstan-Cuba Friendship Association Yerkin Sarkenov, Santana concluded.
