Havana, Mar 4 (Prensa Latina) Cuban pitcher Ulfrido Garcia, runner-up in the Italian League and participant in the Caribbean Series, passed away of a heart attack on Friday, Cubadebate website reported.

Garcia died at 04:30 hours, local time, in the city of Santiago de Cuba, 877.9 kilometers east of Havana, where he was recovering from an injury in his pitching arm during the current Cuban baseball campaign.

Born on March 2, 1994, in Songo La Maya, Santiago de Cuba, the pitcher made his debut at the National Baseball Series in 2013.

During his sports career, almost always with the Avispas team, he won 45 games and lost 60, with one game saved. He completed 15 games and relieved 50 pitchers in the same number of games. He also gave 398 strikeouts, supported by a good curve, and gave 337 tickets.

In 2018, he pitched in the Italian League, with the Parma Clima team, and won the runner-up position.

Eriberto Rosales, former pitcher and manager of the Avispas team, deeply regretted the death of the pitcher in statements to the Facebook account of journalist Cusco Tarradell.

Ulfrido had immense motivations, he dreamed and was preparing to return to the elite of our national series. It is unbelievable and hard for those of us who knew and admired him, said the technical director.
