Cuban health authorities confirm 176 new Covid-19 cases

Havana, Dec 31 (Prensa Latina) Cuban health authorities on Thursday confirmed 176 Covid-19 cases, totaling 11,863 patients since the outbreak of the pandemic in the country in March.
 
In the last 24 hours, an 89-year-old man died in the eastern province of Santiago de Cuba. He suffered from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and a broken hip.

Since the outbreak of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus pandemic in Cuba, the death toll totals 146, according to statistics provided at the press briefing by the Ministry of Public Health.

Authorities set out that 3,193 patients have been admitted to hospitals for clinical-epidemiological surveillance, 631 are suspected cases, 982 are under surveillance and 1,580 are active cases.

In order to test people for the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, 14,673 PCR tests were made, so Cuba accumulates 1,476,673 such tests so far.

From the total of Covid-19 cases detected on Thursday, 91 patients were contacts of other cases, 80 were infected abroad and five people do not know where they caught the virus; while 137 Covid-19 patients were asymptomatic, totaling 7,804 cases diagnosed without symptoms.

Health authorities also noted that 122 patients were discharged from hospital, totaling 10,125 recovered patients, while of 22 patients, 12 are in critical condition and 10 are seriously ill in intensive care units.
