Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez is arrived in the Russian city of Kazan October 21st, to take part at the 16th Summit of the BRICS group of countries, underway October 22 -24.
On his X account, Rodriguez recalled that the current scenario facing Cuba—an energy emergency and the severe impact of a hurricane-- did not allow President Miguel Diaz-Canel to attend the summit.
He said that Diaz-Canel is personally leading efforts to reestablish the national power grid after it collapsed and to deal with the damage inflicted by the storm.
The 16th Summit of the BRICS alliance confirmed the attendance of high-level delegations from 32 nations, including the group’s 10 member states: Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Ethiopia.
Several leaders of different nations requesting their BRICS membership have also been invited to the meeting.
The summit focuses on strengthening multilateralism for equitable global development and security. Participants will debate issues of the global and regional agendas, and the results of cooperation within the alliance.
