Cuban cultural institutions recall Che Guevara’s life

The National Library of Cuba on Saturday commemorated the 55th anniversary of the physical disappearance of the Argentinian-Cuban revolutionary Ernesto Che Guevara, an example of internationalism and a man committed to the social causes of Latin America.
The Havana-based institution posted on its Twitter account images of Che’s last entry in his diary in Bolivia on October 7, 1967, one day before he was captured and executed by the army, under instructions of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) of the United States.
For its part, the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC) shared on the same social network the words of the poet, ethnologist, and honorary president of that organization, Miguel Barnet, in remembrance of the Sierra Maestra guerrilla and commander in the revolutionary deed in Cuba, where he arrived as an expedition member on the Granma yacht in 1956.
After the triumph of the Cuban Revolution in 1959, Che served as president of the National Bank, director of the Department of Industrialization of the National Institute of Agrarian Reform, and Minister of Industry and was among the founders of the Latin American news agency Prensa Latina at a time when the country needed to defend itself from media campaigns against the nascent Revolution.
