Cuba will be hosting the Third Cycle of Peace Talks between the Government of Colombia and the National Liberation Army (ELN) starting on May 2nd.

The negotiations were interrupted for four years, but were resumed in November 2022 in Caracas, Venezuela, and later on in Mexico.

According to the general director of Latin America and the Caribbean for the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Eugenio Martínez, conditions are guaranteed in Havana for the development of the conversations.

Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez announced, on April 25th, the date on which the talks would take place, and assured that Cuba would act with its traditional disposition and impartiality as guarantor and alternative venue.

The parties to the talks issued a statement saying that Cuba’s permanent and neutral commitment to the reconciliation of Colombians, despite any statement seeking to cast doubt on it, that Cuba is a beacon of hope and peace for the rest of the continent.

“(Cuba’s) people and its Government have paid a high cost for this commitment: Cuba was unfairly included in the list of terrorism-sponsoring states, precisely for complying with what was agreed upon, when starting the peace process that summons us,” they emphasized and stressed that Colombia recognizes and values this sacrifice.
