The race for the top of the 64th Cuban National Baseball Series resumes today, with both the Wasps and the Crocodiles compelled to seek victory after heavy rains forced multiple suspensions in the previous round.

The Santiago squad left its matchup against the Cienfuegos Elephants unfinished, trailing “0-2 on the scoreboard.” That contest will be resumed this afternoon before a second seven-inning game is played at Estadio 5 de Septiembre.

The Matanzas Crocodiles were also unable to take the field against the Guantánamo Indians. They are now scheduled for a doubleheader at Nguyen Van Troi Stadium, each contest limited to seven innings.

Meanwhile, the Ciego de Ávila Tigers and the Artemisa Hunters will also make up their rained-out games with a two-game program at José Ramón Cepero Stadium.

Industriales Dominate; Pinar and Granma Triumph

Among the teams that did manage to play, Industriales routed Villa Clara “14-6 at Latinoamericano Stadium,” fueled by Yasiel Santoya and Ariel Hechavarría at the heart of a 14-hit offensive barrage.

In Pinar del Río, the Vegueros defeated Holguín “7-3 at Capitán San Luis Stadium,” powered by a home run from William Saavedra and solid pitching from Gabriel Cantero. Sancti Spíritus, by contrast, was blanked “0-7 by Granma” in its home ballpark.

Defending Champions Hold Strong; Camagüey Explodes at the Plate

In Las Tunas, the defending champions edged Mayabeque “8-7 in extra innings,” thanks to clutch home runs from Roberto Baldoquín and Yosvani Alarcón. Camagüey, meanwhile, overwhelmed Isla de la Juventud “15-3,” with three homers and a dominant start from Rodolfo Soris.

Standings Remain Tight at the Top

The standings place Santiago (15-3) and Matanzas (16-4) at the top, followed closely by Industriales (13-5), Artemisa (12-5), Las Tunas (12-6), Holguín (13-8), Sancti Spíritus (12-9), and Camagüey (11-10), rounding out the current qualifying zone.
