Experienced Havana-born player Jorge E. Alomá is optimistic about the performance of Industriales in the 64th National Baseball Series, as he takes to the field for what could be his final participation in the tournament.
At 35 years of age, the player from the municipality of Arroyo Naranjo feels he is in condition to contribute to the team, believing he can help significantly with his experience. He has even already won a championship as a manager in the Provincial Series. While he was not in Cuba, as he was playing in the Italian League, his teammates elected him captain of the blue squad, something that motivated him even further.
"I am very motivated, as I see a team that is quite well-off; they are playing joyfully and with great cohesion," he said. "I would like to leave as a champion, and we are going to give it our all to make that dream come true. I don't want to say it will be my last Series, but it could be."
Alomá is ready to play in whatever position the management decides.
"Over in Italy, I mostly played third base, and also sometimes at second. I told [manager] Carmona that if it's necessary to play shortstop, I'll do that too. The important thing is my willingness and the desire I have to contribute."
The Havanese player, who has defended the colors of several teams in Cuban baseball, had his peak moment in the 58th National Series. He was the Most Valuable Player for the Las Tunas Lumberjacks when they won their first-ever national championship.
Industriales captain Jorge Alomá has stated that this could be his last National Series, and he dreams of leaving with the title.
