The Caribbean's 1st Literary Workshop broadens its expectations

The first Workshop of Literary Studies of the Caribbean Festival broadens its expectations, giving continuity to previous endeavors of the international event that will open its 40th edition in upcoming days.

Writer and cultural promoter Yunier Riquenes, coordinator of the event to be held on July 5 and 6, confirmed to Prensa Latina the workshop will be dedicated to Santiago poet Jesus Cos Causse and Barbadian Edward Kamau Brathwaite, important figures of regional literature.

On Internet websites, he noted, the initial panel will be conducted by academics from the Universidad de Oriente, one of the main institutions of the meeting along with the Universidad Autonoma del Estado de Mexico and scholars from Chile, the United States and Argentina.

Riquenes emphasized the purpose of favoring the dissemination of information and promotion among literary and cultural research centers in the Caribbean and other latitudes, as well as projects that boost creative work in this geographic area.

He highlighted the participation of Patricio Rojas, director of the Antofagasta Book Fair in Chile, and Ruben Bisceglia, director of the La Paz bookstore in Argentina, who will share experiences of the network created for the promotion of their national literatures.

National Literature Prize winner Luis Alvarez, essayist Olga Garcia, Casa de las Americas Prize winner Reynaldo Garcia and the recent winner of the highest award for Cultural Journalism, Reinaldo Cedeño, will take part in the workshop representing Cuba, the intellectual indicated.

The International Festival of the Caribbean or 'Fiesta del Fuego' (Festival of Fire), dedicated to Belize, will begin on the social networks on Saturday July 3, and will last until Friday July 9.
