La Paz, Mar 13 (Prensa Latina) Representatives of Bolivian social movements supported the public rejection made on Twitter, by the Minister of Hydrocarbons and Energy, Franklin Molina, of the interventionist statements made by General Laura Richardson, of the United States Southern Command.

“We do not admit any interference from any state in the world. Bolivia has a definition regarding the industrialization of natural resources, something that we began to do since 2006,” Molina stressed in an interview with the Bolivia TV state channel.

in regards to the statements made by the four-star general Richardson before US congressmen, when he said “we have ignored our backyard”, Molina, in response, gave a sharp answer:”There are no consultations with the IMF (International Monetary Fund) here, nor with the World Bank, nor with any northern country to develop our own destiny. Therefore, as a sovereign nation, we have decided, and we are free to choose and work with the one that brings the best conditions to our country,” he stated.

He considered that Richardson’s assertions show both little capacity of analysis and little respect for the countries of the lithium triangle (Argentina, Bolivia and Chile). He added that these expressions denote, not only despair, but also a lack of global vision about what is happening in the world.

Last Wednesday, Richardson said that China is “expanding its influence” in Latin America and the Caribbean and “manipulates” their governments through “predatory investment practices,” adding that “this region is full of (natural) resources and I am concerned about the malicious activity of our adversaries, who take advantage of it, pretending they are investing, when in fact they are extracting resources.”

“Latin America is not a colony of the United States,” wrote Evo Morales, former president and now leader of the Movement for Socialism-Political Instrument for the Sovereignty of the Peoples, responding to Richardson’s threats, “who is repeating the predatory interest of (the United States) towards the lithium triangle formed by Bolivia, Argentina and Chile, the water and oxygen of the Amazon and the gold of Venezuela”. He also pointed out that China is a strategic ally that provides cooperation unconditionally.

“Free Latin America will never again be the backyard of interventionism,” Morales stressed.
