The decision by the United States government to reinstate Cuba to the unilateral list of countries that supposedly do not cooperate in the fight against terrorism is an absolutely fraudulent action, devoid of any legal or ethical basis. It’s, once again, a cynical maneuver aimed at pressuring and isolating the Cuban people for political purposes, using a topic as sensitive as terrorism as a weapon of blackmail. Washington thus confirms that it continues to act from an imperialist perspective that disregards the basic principles of international law.

The Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through its Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, denounced this new aggression as an act of double standards. On social media, the foreign minister was clear in stating that the inclusion is a "fraudulent designation," ordered by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, whom he described as a politician known for lying to justify the most hostile policies against Cuba. Beyond the direct tone of the message, the truth is that US intelligence agencies themselves had admitted in 2024 that there was no evidence to support keeping the island on that list.

It's deeply hypocritical that the United States government seeks to accuse Cuba of not cooperating in the fight against terrorism, when it’s precisely on US soil that numerous terrorist actions against Cuba have been organized, financed, and executed with complete impunity. As the Cuban minister pointed out, Washington not only tolerates these events, but also covers them up, while attempting to establish itself as a world judge without the moral credentials to do so.

We are facing a clear setback driven by the new US administration, led by Donald Trump, which is reversing a previous decision by his predecessor, Joe Biden, who acknowledged in May 2024 that circumstances had changed and that Cuba should not be included on that list. This new measure reactivates mechanisms of hostility that directly affect the Cuban people, hinder trade and international relations, and foster a perverse narrative based on recurrent lies.

Cuba has reiterated its commitment to peace, international cooperation, and the fight against all forms of terrorism. The list to which it’s now being falsely linked is nothing more than a unilateral, arbitrary, and delegitimized instrument. Perhaps, as Foreign Minister Rodríguez ironically observed, it would be more useful for the United States to draw up a list of corrupt and lying politicians serving spurious interests. Surely, more than one perpetrator of this injustice would find their own space there.
