Argentine President praises approval of new Covid-19 vaccine

Argentine President Alberto Fernandez praised on Wednesday the approval by the National Administration of Medicines, Food and Medical Technology of the first Argentine Covid-19 vaccine ¨Arvac Cecilia Grierson¨.

“We are very proud of it: this is another step towards the sovereignty of our homeland. We will no longer have to knock on the doors of the powerful to save our people,” the president posted on X.

“It is an example of the capacity of our people and of the joint work between the public and private sectors. We will always bet on knowledge, investing in education, health and science. Arvac is approved. Argentines made it. It is ours,” he added.

Fernandez acknowledged the work done by the Health Ministry, the Agency for the Promotion of Research, Technological Development and Innovation, the University of San Martin, the National Council for Scientific and Technical Research and the Cassara Laboratory, which participated in the project.

Meanwhile, Carla Vizzotti, head of the Health Department, assured that this is a historic milestone as it is the first time that a vaccine against infectious diseases has been designed and developed entirely in Argentina.
