After blaze, work is underway for the recovery of the Maximo Gomez power plant

After the extinction of the fire in unit number 7 of the Máximo Gómez thermoelectric plant in Mariel in the early hours of Tuesday morning, recovery actions started.

The Technical Director of the thermoelectric plant, Engineer Roberto Pigueiras, told local television that the fire was finally put out at around midnight.

In the early hours of Tuesday, the plant's management evaluated the magnitude of the damage to unit number 7 and began the process of reestablishing all the systems necessary to recover the operation of units 5 and 6.

At dawn, added Pigueiras, a technical council was held, chaired by Commander Ramiro Valdés Menéndez and with the ministers of Energy and Mines, Industry and Construction.

During the meeting, agreements were reached to face the complex situation created by the breakdown of unit number 7 and to reestablish the civil infrastructure of the engine room to continue the regular operation of the power plant.

The executive informed that the plant is out of service, and he stressed the willingness of his staff to reestablish the functions of the power plant, in the shortest time possible.
