The 5th International Conference For the Balance of the World began its sessions with representatives of some 80 nations, guided by José Martí’s phrase "With all and for the good of all."

The event will be in session at the Convention Center in Havana until next Saturday and constitutes the closing of the program of tribute for the 170th anniversary of the birth of José Martí, on January 28th.

The meeting was convened by the José Martí International Solidarity Project, with the support of numerous Cuban and global institutions such as the United Nations Organization for Science, Education and Culture (UNESCO).

The meeting seeks to promote the widest space for debates on the problems facing the planet, with a plural and multidisciplinary approach in promoting joint solutions with the participation of more than a thousand intellectuals, scientists, politicians and trade unionists, the organizers explained.

To this end, the program includes conferences, the youth forum “With all and for the good of all”, a colloquium of historians, a congress on the new international order and an intergovernmental panel to address climate change.

In recent statements to the media, Eduardo Torres Cuevas, president of the Organizing Committee and director of the Martí Program Office, pointed out that the meeting will ratify the validity of the anti-imperialist thought of the Cuban hero.

He reminded that Martí “saw the birth of the empire, but he also saw the problems of the peoples of the third world, particularly those of Latin America (…).”

He added that when Martí analyzed the time he foresaw “what would happen with the US expansion that he called “the American Rome”.” (…) “If we look at Martí’s thought and bring it to the present, we find that what was born then is the essence of the current world: either a multipolar world or a unipolar world. Either all and with all, or one dominating the rest.”
