Penelope Cruz, Javier Bardem and Pedro Almodovar have written an open letter calling for the Spanish and European Governments to condemn Israel's ongoing attack on Gaza.

The stars were among other Spanish personalities to write a “manifesto,” published in Europa Press Sunday, calling Israel's actions a “genocide against the civilian Palestinian population.”

The letter points to the Israeli occupation as the “detonator” for the violence, criticizing the ongoing advance into Palestinian territory “instead of withdrawing to the 1967 borders.”

They point out that the rights of Gazans have been “trampled on,” and call for a cease fire, for the borders to be opened and permissions for medical equipment to be given.

“Gaza is besieged with horror, attacked by land, sea and air,” the letter continued, “while the international community permits it.”
