Cuban writer Leonardo Padura to receive Atenas de Cuba Honorary Award

This tribute is included in the program of festivities that takes place every year in this city, 100 kilometers to eastern Havana, which will celebrate its 322nd anniversary next October 12.
Norge Céspedes, editor of Matanzas publishing house, told Prensa Latina News Agency, this award is granted to Cuban literature personalities and that among these personalities who have received it are Roberto Fernández Retamar, Antón Arrufat, Nancy Morejón and Reynaldo González.
There will be a lecture dedicated to the work of Padura, he said, “one of the most prestigious Cuban contemporary writers, with a solid work and welcomed worldwide, who includes novel, story, essay an journalism in his writings”.
Céspedes added the film Regreso a Itaca, by French filmmaker Laurent Cantet—of which Padura was co-writer since it was based on his book La Novela de mi Vida—will be shown.
“This literary event will also be dedicated to Holguin province, invited this time to participate, whose literature will be discussed during a round table”, stated the specialist.
One of the special moments of this meeting will be the announcement of the 2015 Matanzas City Foundation Award winners, which in this edition convened in the novel, essay and poetry genres.
As part of this meeting, a group of poetic readings will be developed, and a small book fair will be organized, where the readers from Matanzas province will have the opportunity of buying new publications.
The literary event has Matanzas publishing house, “Digdora Alonso” Literary House, and the Book and Literature Provincial Center as managers, and the Cultural Provincial Department and local authorities as sponsors.
