Silvio Rodríguez performed in Central Park and NY loved him!
Well, we all loved him! Silvio Rodríguez performed a SummerStage Concert in Central Park on Sunday, September 10, 2017. It had been seven years since the renowned exponent of the Cuban “Nueva Trova” movement performed in the United States. Puerto Rican singers Tito Auger and Fernandito Ferrer opened the show. My co-blogger, Lisa, and I felt so fortunate to be there. We were moved and simply delighted by the show, especially by the spectacular new musical and vocal arrangements of his timeless classics; his supreme generosity on stage, responding to the audiences requests for more songs at least 5 times (as Cubadebate reports); and by his outstanding band, all amazing musicians. The concert was simply marvelous. For me, it was a truly unforgettable event. Cubadebate writes:
Well-known Cuban singer-songwriter Silvio Rodríguez offered a concert in New York’s Central Park on Sunday. Thousands of people enjoyed his music, made to dream and reflect. The presentation was given as part of the Summer Stage, a series of outdoor shows in Central Park.
Rodríguez had to cancel his goodbyes at least five times; the public did not stop singing along with his songs and requesting new ones.
“Long live Cuba, long live the world, without exceptions” [Viva Cuba, viva todo el mundo, sin excepciones] were the words the artist pronounced to start the concert; the icon of Latin American revolutionary music combined works from his latest album with his great hits from the past.
