The 7th Iberoamerican Congress of Nuclear Cardiology and Imaging Cardiac began today in the Cuban capital, about 200 specialists from 16 countries are participating.

The event, sponsored by the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology (ASNC), among other institutions, will be held until next Saturday at the Hotel Nacional de Cuba, with experts from the United States, Spain, Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Guadalupe, and Nicaragua attending, according to the organizers.

Amalia Peix, president of the organizing committee, said in statements to the press that Erick Alexanderson and Aloha Meave, both from Mexico, Fernando Mut, from Uruguay and Massardo Teresa, Chilean, will represent Latin America.

Seventy Americans will participate in the event, said Paix. Among them, Richard Chazal and Brian Abbott, presidents of the American College of Cardiology and the ASNC respectively.

Asked to comment on the points of interest in the congress, she mentioned the contribution of nuclear cardiology to ischemia-guided therapy, as well as the application of Positron Emission Tomography (PET) in this field.

She also added that nuclear cardiology and cardiac failure, radiation dose-reduction strategies, echocardiography, CT scan and MRI are among the topics to be discussed in the event.

Peix, also President of the Section of Nuclear Cardiology in Cuba told the press that the discussions and presentations will be complemented with the exhibition of products from renowned companies such as Medisol and Syntermed, both from the US, and the Cuban Isotopes Center.
