The Havana-based Conference Center (PCH, in Spanish), considered the second home of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, due to his regular visits, is celebrating its 45th anniversary on Tuesday.

This prestigious institution, which has hosted many international events, was opened on September 3, 1979, with the holding of the 6th Summit of Heads of State of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).

At that time, the Cuban president assumed the presidency of the multi-regional bloc, in complex times of world politics that raised his leadership and that of Cuba in matters of interest to the international community.

According to the institution’s founders, the opening of the PCH, with more than 3,500 workers, repaid the energies devoted to this project by the commander-in-chief of the Cuban Revolution and outstanding revolutionary Celia Sanchez, who supervised each phase of the construction work.

Designed by relevant Cuban arquitect Antonio Quintana Simonetti, it has 15 halls, including one big plenary hall, besides another major four halls, and another 10 big rooms ideal for working commissions or small size meetings. A four star hotel, Palco, is attached to it which is very convenient for guests attending the events.

The institution has held significant global events to this day, such as the Summit of the G77+China in 2023, the high-level meetings of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States, and many international and national congresses and conferences.
