Cuba participates in First WHO Global Meeting of National Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) Programme Directors and Managers, which concludes today at the headquarters of the World Health Organization.

Orlando Landrove, senior official of Cuban Public Health Ministry, presented the experiences of Cuba in preventing risk factors for chronic noncommunicable diseases.

Landrove explained NCDs were the leading causes of morbidity, disability and mortality in Cuba.

Our country has a very positive baseline to achieve great progress in this area, given their system of universal health coverage based on sustainable and primary care, accessible to the entire population and with a strong preventive approach, he emphasized.

Cuba's participation in this important forum facilitated the exchange of knowledge and experiences with representatives from around the world.

This exchange focused on improving national responses; strengthening NCD surveillance systems, including the systematic measurement; and promoting their prevention, according to a statement issued by the Permanent Mission of Cuba in Geneva.
