Cuba maintains cooperation with the World Customs Organization (WCO) and other related regional institutions, in the prevention of and struggle against drug trafficking, asserted an expert in this capital.
In statements to ACN, Daniel Noa, main inspector with the Area of Struggle against Fraud of the General Customs of the Republic, highlighted the island’s support for foreign entities in the exchange of information to stop illegal commerce of these substances.
On the occasion of the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, marked on June 26, the expert commented on Cuba’s contribution to the Customs Enforcement Network, a database of the WCO, of which Cuba is a member.
In 2012, Cuba issued alerts, which allowed the authorities of France and Holland to confiscate six kilograms of cocaine in those territories.
Information provided by the island has also served to make analyses and alert systems related to illicit activities in reference to customs, specified Noa.
The International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was established by the UN General Assembly in 1987.
