Good Results in Cuba in Holland-Supported Aquaculture Project
especiales

Cuban and European Union (EU) executive officers assessed today as satisfactory the results of an aquaculture project carried out here by the UNESCO-IHE Institute for Water Education, based in the Netherlands, which allows saving food exports. Such cooperation project has been implemented at the center El Dique, in the municipality Cotorro in this capital, with a one-million-euro financing (25 percent contributed by that institute and the rest by the EU) and it allowed that productions of catfish were obtained in this country for the first time, with national fodder.
It is especially aimed at saving resources, cleaner productions and personnel training, said Unesco-IHE specialist Hector Garcia, in charge of the project execution on that side.
Professor Damir Brdjanovic, head of Environmental Engineering and Water Technology to that entity, highlighted the positive results obtained through that cooperation on a demonstrative scale.
Cuban National Director of Aquaculture Nelson Perez remarked the importance of the project, which could be repeated in the rest of the national companies in the future.
