Cuban Commerce Minister Arrives in Lebanon to Promote Business

Cuban Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, Rodrigo Malmierca, met today with Lebanese Foreign Minister, Gebran Bassil, with an agenda centered on bilateral relations, particularly business, after arriving in here leading a business delegation.

The Lebanese foreign minister was hopeful to expand the capital investment of this country in Cuba, and was interested in developing business in many fields with the Caribbean island, referd Cabrisas.

"It was a very good meeting, he (Bassil) expects the Lebanese capital is going to invest in Cuba," the Caribbean minister of commerce told Prensa Latina, before providing a statement to Lebanese media waiting for him at the headquarters of the Foreign Ministry.

The meeting with Bassil at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is the the first contact with Lebanon authorities.

Bassil visited Cuba in February this year also leading a delegation of Lebanese businessmen, and then he was interested in several development plans and investment options offered by the economy of the Caribbean island, which explains his support for that kind of contacts.

At this time, another priority is to ensure the Lebanese presence in the International Fair of Havana, which will take place in November, and to which 12 national companies have already confirmed, but we are working for more, stated Kazma, president of Lebanese-Cuban Businessmen Council.

Malmierca traveled to Beirut accompanied by the President of the Chamber of Commerce of Cuba (CCC), Orlando Hernandez Guillen, to participate in the second bi-national economic forum with the Lebanese-Cuban Businessmen Council (CHNLC), chaired y Ali Kazma.

The Cuban delegation is also made up of investment director from the Ministry of Foreign Trade, Deborah Rivas, North Africa and Middle East director of that ministry, Rafael Jimeno, as well as officials from the Ministries of Tourism and Industry.

It was received at the Rafic Hariri airport in this capital by Kazma, a representative of the Minister of Economy and Trade, Alain Hakim, and Cuban ambassador, Rene Ceballo.
