Angola: Vice-President of Cuba Lays Wreath at Tomb of Cuban Nationalist

The First Vice-President of the State and Ministers Councils of Cuba, Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermúdez, who is paying a three-day visit to the country, laid on Wednesday in the Alto das Cruzes cemetery, a wreath at the tomb of the first commander of the Cuban military mission in Angola, Raul Dias Arguelles.
The Cuban official was accompanied by the State Secretary for Former Combatants and Motherland Veterans, Clemente Conjuca, the Minister of Hotels and Tourism, Pedro Mutindi, and the Cuban ambassador to Angola, Gisela Garcia.
At the time, Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermúdez praised the achievements of the commander Raúl Arguelle, fallen on December 11, 1975, in the Battle of Ebo, Kwanza Sul province, who led the fight against the invading forces of South Africa's apartheid regime.
In this context, he praised the performance of the Cuban combatants who welcomed as their, the cause of the Angolan brothers and answered the call of the first President of Angola, António Agostinho Neto, in 1975.
On the other hand, he said that in November this year Angola will celebrate 40 years of independence and the Cuban brothers will be part of the celebration, not only for the contribution in difficult times, but because the relationship between Angola and Cuba, dated in more than 200 years, gained official status in 1975.
In his turn, the State secretary of Former Combatants and Motherland Veterans, Clemente Conjuca, conveyed greetings and sentiments of solidarity of the President and Commander in Chief of the Angolan Armed Forces, José Eduardo dos Santos, to the Government and people of Cuba.
Angola and Cuba maintain excellent cooperation ties in the fields of defense and security, education, health, transport, public works, construction, oil, sport, culture, tourism, among others.
