Over 70 percent of Hispanics living in the United States favors the reestablishment of diplomatic relations with Cuba, according to a recent national survey by the Florida Atlantic University (FAU).

The survey also revealed that 68 percent of Hispanics favors bilateral trade and that a large portion of that community wants the improvement of relations between the two countries, a process in which the reestablishment of diplomatic links constitute the first step, said Kevin Wagner, an expert with the FAU economic and business survey initiative.

In Southern United States, which includes Florida, 60 percent of Hispanics favor the increase of trade with Cuba, while at the national level 49 percent say they are willing to visit the island.

Presidents Raul Castro and Barack Obama announced on December 17 their decision to reestablish diplomatic relations and to kick off a process aimed at the normalization of bilateral links, which were broken by Washington over half a century ago.
