Trump Impeachment: The Non-Guilty Accused

After a week of impeachment for inciting violence during the assault on the Capitol on January 6th, former President Donald Trump was acquitted.

The videos shown by the prosecutors, which recalled the violent attackers chasing members of the Congress, they apparently weren’t too convincing for the Republican committee who, apparently, preferred to sacrifice the prestige of the so-called American democracy before that of their party.

The unusual verdict will undoubtedly go down in history, especially for the paradoxical statements of the Republican leader in the Upper House of United States, Mitch McConnell, who, despite having voted in favor of his acquittal, he described Donald Trump as "practical and moral responsible" for the attack on the Capitol.

In a speech at the Senate after the result of the 'impeachment', McConnell assured that the people involved in the assault "Had been fed falsehoods by the most powerful man on Earth" and that the behavior of the former president is due to "he was angry for losing the election. "

If on January 6th, after the symbolic collapse of the Capitol of Washington starring neo-fascist groups, "bandits and criminals", the American democracy was deadly wounded, in the trial finished last Saturday, the complicity of the distinguished Republican senators, just sentenced that democracy to death.

After the trial, the accused said in a statement: “Our historic, patriotic and beautiful movement to Make America Great Again has only just begun,” he said. “In the months ahead, I have much to share with you, and I look forward to continuing our incredible journey together to achieve American greatness for all of our people.” There has never been anything like it!".

What does "you" mean for the former president? Is it the domestic terrorists who carried out his orders or the Republican senators who arranged the crime?

With Trump's latest acquittal, the self-proclaimed champion of democracy in the world has just offered another example of what values he defends: the democracy of dictatorial self-coups and justice where the accused are acquitted.
Hopefully, from now on, to justify its degenerative systemic crisis, the country, self-destined to lead the world, does not impose the rest of the nations, as a paradigm of a new world order, such "democratic" and "fair" methods.
