“Washington’s actions devalue its own signals about being interested in cooperation with us on several pressing international problems,” the foreign ministry said. “Futile attempts to exert sanctions pressure on us, as it seems, have not taught Washington strategists anything,” the ministry added.

“The United States should not harbor illusions about the possibility to continue this line without negative consequences for themselves,” the ministry noted. “Reciprocal measures from us will definitely follow, and they will not necessarily be ‘mirrored’,” the foreign ministry stressed.

“This reflects the policy rooted in the US ruling circles towards a deliberate and consistent breakdown of a basis of normalizing the Russian-US relations,” the ministry said in a statement.

According to the ministry, the measure again shows that the US is unable to assess the events in Ukraine adequately.

The ministry noted that Washington’s policy with regard to Russia is a source of concern even for the US allies, it may harm international stability, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday.

“The expansion of the anti-Russian sanctions lists is another element in the series of hostile actions taken by the United States against Russia recently in various fields, including the military, economic and visa ones,” the ministry said. “The unacceptable rhetoric in Washington goes off scale.”

“Such reckless policy causes growing concern even among U.S. allies,” the ministry said. “It is fraught with serious side effects for the international stability and, without doubt, will boomerang back on the American interests.”

The United States on Wednesday announced new sanctions on several Russian companies suspected of activities contrary to the Iran, North Korea, and Syria Nonproliferation Act.n
