It is elementary mathematics. If Cuba´s Domadores swept in their first four clashes in the V World Boxing Series, four Cuban Greco-Roman wrestlers won and swept all opponents in the start of the 46th edition of the Granma-Cerro Pelado tournament.

They were Maykel Anache (59 kg), Reynier Lescay (71), Alan Vera (80), and Yasmani Lugo (98). They fought under the former rules, which were adopted again by the United World Wrestling: two periods of three minutes, and then four-point position after two bookings due to the wrestler’s passivity.

Luckily, Anache —the wizard— and Vera, the most outstanding Greco-Roman wrestlers in Cuba nowadays, did not need any “help” from referees.

Anache kept on shinning as he did in Iran in 2014 —he won easily his three matches—. This time, he defeated Central and Caribbean ace Ismael Borrero, from Santiago de Cuba (8-0), and Sancti Spiritus’ Javier Dumenico (10-2).

“I have trained very hard. I have followed all advices and increased the effectiveness of all my technical movements, especially the Gutwrench, my best technique”, said Anache.

Vera also won easily. He overpowered Ecuadorian Enrique Cuero 10-1.

Vera stated: “I am dreaming with the Olympics. I have been training with that goal. I hope to participate in all major tournaments in the 85 kg division. I fought and lost to Gilberto Piquet on semifinals. Regardless of the result, I feel ready to fight for the ticket and this is an accessible division since I am always around 86 kg when training.

The other two gold medals for Cuba were awarded to Reinier Lescay who beat Canadian Phillip Barreiro 6-0. Ace Yasmani Lugo outdueled all of his rivals including Hungarian Ivan Nemeth. However, world youth champion still needs to improve his performance. He did not carry out effectively any major technique to his rivals.

Fights in the 66, 75, 85, and 130 kg will take place today in the classic style. Freestyle wrestling for women will have competition as well in the 48, 53, 60, and 75 kg. This event will be tough. U.S., Germany, Canada, and Spain will compete with strong teams.
