Lisbon, November 12 (RHC)--The vice-president of the Portuguese parliament, Antonio Filipe, condemned on Friday the economic, commercial, and financial blockade of the United States against Cuba, which has intensified despite the Covid-19 pandemic.

In statements to Prensa Latina, Filipe pointed out that when "everyone should be united in the fight against the pandemic", Washington increased its unilateral coercive measures against the island and "very seriously damaged the common effort must be made on this matter."

The 58-year-old jurist and university professor was elected deputy for the Portuguese Communist Party (PCP) in 10 consecutive legislatures, since 1989, including the current one, whose mandate will end with the early elections called for next January 30.

During the dialogue at the headquarters of the Assembly of the Portuguese Republic, the deputy praised the international aid provided by the Caribbean nation during the health emergency, which, he said, showed not only the world Cuban medicine but also Cuba's solidarity work with many countries.

At the level of health professionals, we have seen situations of the calamity in countries in need of medical support, and Cuba is in the front line, not only in underdeveloped countries but also in Europe, as in the case of Italy, he said.
