USAID funds subversive activities against Cuba

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) serves as a façade for financing subversive activities against Cuba, the official Granma daily denounces on Saturday.
In an editorial column the Government's newspaper underscores USAID and the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) mask the actions of the Central Intelligence Agency, and function as channels for providing money to counterrevolutionary groupings.
It quotes the Cuba Money Project webpage, created by American journalist Tracey Eaton, which indicates that the figure destined for subversion programs against the island, since 1990, amounts to over 261 million dollars.
Granma recalls that since the arrival of Republican Donald Trump to the White House, in January 2017, the USAID invested almost 50 million dollars in its attempts to change the political system of Cuba.
He adds that recently the acting administrator of the U.S. agency, John Barsa, joined the counterrevolutionary campaign of the Madrid-based non-governmental organization, Observatorio Cubano de Derechos Humanos, which receives $250,000 annually from the NED and $127,000 from the USAID.
Similarly, both organizations allocate funds for private media on the island, in 'a true dance of millions to try to defeat the Cuban Revolution,' the daily adds.
USAID was created on November 3, 1961, supposedly to contribute to the economic and social development of Latin America, but in reality its funds finance repression against countries, organizations, movements or people with leftist or progressive ideas, the newspaper stresses.
