London, Feb 4 (Prensa Latina) Elena Narozanski is the fifth aide to the UK Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, to resign from office in the last few hours, after the scandal over the party in Downing Street during the quarantine.

The news of the latest resignation from Johnson’s team of aides was announced Friday on Twitter by the editor of the website of the ruling Conservative Party.

Narozanski, who served as special aide to the British Prime Minister for issues related to women and equality, would thus join the exodus that began on Thursday with the resignations of four other aides, including press and personnel chiefs, Jack Doyle and Dan Rosenfield, respectively.

Munira Mirza, senior political adviser, and Johnson’s private secretary, Martin Reynolds, also resigned on Thursday.

The resignations came as the Conservative leader faces the worst crisis of his tenure over revelations that he and his aides were holding social gatherings and birthdays in Downing Street as the country was under a strict Covid-19 lockdown.

Last Monday, Johnson apologized in Parliament after an internal investigation confirmed the celebration of parties at his official residence, but he refused to present his resignation, as demanded by the opposition, the majority of voters and several members of the conservative caucus.

The report prepared by senior civil servant Sue Gray concluded that there were serious failures of leadership and judgment in the events held in 2020 and 2021 at the PM’s residence, which, also according to Gray, is “difficult to justify” with the pandemic as backdrop and at times in which the Government asked citizens to abide by the harsh restrictions imposed.
