A special tribute will be held today at the Hotel Nacional de Cuba in Havana for the 116th anniversary of the birth of the famous Cuban musician Compay Segundo.

According to the Compay Segundo group on Facebook, the concert will begin at 8:00 p.m. local time in the 1930 Hall, and will include renowned Cuban artists such as Isaac Delgado, Haila María Mompié, David Blanco, Ricardo Amaray, Gastón Joya, Vionaika Martínez and other popular music performers.

The concert also includes the live presentation of the most recent record production of this group, titled Vívelo and nominated for the 2023 Cubadisco Award in the category of the sonera and peasant tradition.

The phonogram, which featured the musical production of the singer, composer, arranger and multi-instrumentalist Maikel Dinza, pays contemporary tribute to the work of Compay Segundo, part of the famous Buena Vista Social project Club and considered the oldest and most famous troubadour in the world.

Compay Segundo was the artistic pseudonym of Máximo Francisco Repilado Muñoz, guitarist, clarinetist, singer and composer born in Santiago de Cuba in November 18, 1907 and who died in 2023.

He was a musician with a long career and composer with more than 100 creations, among which the sones SarandongaLa Calabaza and ¡Saludo, Compay!

His classic interpretation of the song Chan Chan made him a legend and symbol of traditional Cuban music, and highlighted his mischievous and tasty way of making his followers dance around the world.
