The Superior Basketball League (LSB) will begin on April 1, as confirmed to Radio Rebelde by the National Commissioner of the discipline, Dalia Henry.

The teams of Villa Clara, current champion, Artemisa, Santiago de Cuba, Guantánamo, Ciego de Ávila, Sancti Spíritus, Matanzas and Capitalinos will compete in the second sports spectacle of the country.

The former member of the national team, said that the conditions are already created to start the LSB. "As it is known the date previously planned was for March 2 and this was not possible. Now it will be from April 1 to June 12 and we intend to achieve a better preparation of the provinces."

Henry pointed out that it has not yet been defined which will be the venue for Artemisa in the Superior League. "This is one of the objectives of our tour, to define where this selection will play, which should be in Pinar del Rio or in this capital."

Another of the Halls that are not ready at the moment is the Giraldo Córdova Cardín avileña, main headquarters of the "Búfalos" nine-time national champions. "The maintenance work on the multi-purpose hall in Ciego de Avila has not yet been completed and we will see when it will be ready. We are also concerned about the Rafael Castiello in Guantanamo, which is one of the important venues of Cuban basketball."

As a novelty, in the upcoming LSB will be the celebration of the All-Star Games, which would be after the end of the first round of the qualifying stage. "The venue would be evaluated in the course of the event and this would count on the skills tests. We intend at the inauguration to remember the 50th anniversary of our men's team's historic bronze medal at the 1972 Munich Olympics."

The National Basketball Commissioner pointed out that the fundamental objective of the Superior League, in addition to seeking spectacle, is to develop the sport's relay. "We want the players to raise their technical level and not only them, but we also want the coaches to improve their skills".
