Lanka Leader newspaper published on its front page on Monday an open letter that Spanish journalist and intellectual Ignacio Ramonet sent to US President Joe Biden calling for the cessation of the economic war against Cuba.
The lengthy letter is accompanied by a brief explanation in Sinhalese language about Ramonet’s career and the demand for Cuba’s removal from Washington’s State Sponsors of Terrorism (SSOT) list created by the United States as a political instrument.
The Sri Lankan newspaper points out that the letter highlights the humanitarian operations and activities conducted by the Cuban Government and its people for the welfare of humanity.
Lanka Leader urged readers to email casadelasamericas2024@gmail.com if they agree with Ramonet’s letter to the US president.
On behalf of the signatories of the letter, artists, writers, and non-governmental organizations globally, Ramonet affirmed that they expect a gesture from Biden to repair what he called a profound injustice committed by his predecessor, Donald Trump, of designating Cuba on that list.
