The sustainable exploitation of natural resources such as oil, gas and other minerals will be the focus of attention at the 11th International Convention on Earth Sciences, which will open its debates here next Tuesday.

Geologists and geophysicists from different latitudes will exchange on the search, management and sustainable exploitation of these resources at the event, which hosts several conventions at the same time.

Sponsored by the Geological Society of Cuba, the event welcomes presentations on this island, the Caribbean or in general on water, oil and gas, construction, research on earthquakes and other geological risks, medical geology, education in geosciences; as well as any other related to the sustainable exploitation of natural resources.

As usual, Geosciences 2025 brings together five traditional congresses: the XVI Geology Congress, the XIII Geophysics Congress, the XII Mining Congress, the X Oil and Gas Congress and the XV Computing and Geosciences Congress, reports the website of the event, which is held every two years.

The academic program includes several excursions to Cuban geological sites, as well as workshops and symposiums with current topics on 3D applications, artificial intelligence, critical minerals for energy transition, environmental impacts of mining, among the most significant ones.

The Mining Congress will address topics such as open pit and subway mining, safety, energy economy, mineral processing, technological research, new products and processes, technical and economic evaluation of mining projects and technologies, prospects for development and exploitation of solid minerals and geology.

There will also be two Symposiums on Geology, Exploration and Exploitation of laterite-nitric deposits and Mining and Metallurgy, according to the announcement.

Founded in 2005, and headquartered in the capital’s Convention Palace, Geosciences 2023 was attended by about 400 researchers, professionals, scientists and businessmen from about 20 countries, including the United States, China, France, Spain, Mexico and Uruguay.
