Russia and Cuba resumed regular direct air services on Saturday, with the first flight operated by Rossiya Airlines from Moscow's Sheremetyevo airport, the company's Spokesman, Sergei Starikov, said.

A 457-seat Boeing 777 plane covered the route between Moscow and the Cuban coastal resort of Varadero in about 13 hours. The average ticket price is about 30,000 rubles (about 340 dollars), according to Prensa Latina.

The flights will operate twice a week, on Thursdays and Saturdays.

Starting in September, the program will be expanded to three weekly flights. Tickets can be purchased separately; or as part of the travel product provided by the Biblio-Globus tour operator, Starikov said.

The Russia-Cuba route is one of the oldest in Aeroflot’s history. The first regular flight to Cuba took place on July 10, 1962, on a Tu-114 aircraft.
