Moscow, May 23 (Prensa Latina) The Russian Ministry of Emergencies informed on Tuesday that it plans to send airport firefighting equipment to Cuba in order to modernize the Russian-Cuban training center for firefighters and rescuers in Havana.
According to the agency, Russian authorities made the decision to help the center with new foam firefighting vehicles, airport firefighting equipment, water tankers, as well as an extensive list of specialized equipment.
“The center will celebrate its tenth anniversary in 2024, so its equipment with new modern technique will be timely and will allow to increase the center’s practical response capability in emergency situations,” Russian Emergencies Minister Alexander Kurenkov stressed.
According to Kurenkov, the Russian-Cuban center has trained experts from 17 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean for nine years.
In particular, the center’s technical equipment was used to extinguish a wild fire that broke out in the oil supertanker base in the port of Matanzas last August.
The Russian Emergencies Ministry also stressed that Cuban firefighters managed to extinguish the fire thanks to training at the agency’s universities.
