Washington, Dec 15 (Prensa Latina) A research concluded that world health systems should pay more attention to cardiovascular diseases, as heart problems are now the leading cause of death on the planet.

According to the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, Central Asia and Eastern Europe have the highest mortality rates due to heart diseases.

High blood pressure, hypercholesterolemia, dietary risks, and atmospheric pollution were the leading causes of death.

“More than 80 percent of cardiovascular diseases are preventable,” the researchers emphasized.

The scientists warned about some risks such as air pollution, lead exposure, high systolic blood pressure, cholesterol, body mass index, fasting plasma glucose, renal dysfunction, and behaviors, in addition to diet, active and passive smoking, alcohol consumption, and low physical activity.
