The leader of the Cuban Revolution, Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, and the President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel, headed this Tuesday the political act and military ceremony for the 78th anniversary of the victory over fascism, at the Mausoleum to the Soviet Internationalist Soldier, in Havana.

On January 29, 2009, Raul acknowledged the significance of the date. "There are no words to express the gigantic heroism and sacrifice of all the peoples that made up the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR), especially the contributions of the Russian people."

Several Cuban leaders have expressed their satisfaction for the 78th anniversary of the feat against the Nazi regime. The president of the Cuban National Assembly (Parliament), Esteban Lazo Hernández, congratulated the Russian people on the commemoration.

He stressed that during the hard years of World War II, Soviet troops and their Eastern European allies were a decisive and decisive force to put an end to fascism.

The Foreign Ministry of the island, in the same social network, evoked the event, which it described as historic, and stressed that it is necessary to continue advancing to preserve world peace.

May 9 is celebrated as the day of victory against fascism and marks the surrender of Nazi Germany to the Soviet delegation in Berlin, when Field Marshal Keitel signed the document recognizing the victory of the Red Army of Workers and Peasants of the USSR.
