The presidents of Cuba and Venezuela, Miguel Díaz-Canel and Nicolás Maduro, respectively, paid tribute on Thursday to Liberator Simón Bolívar, in the square that bears his name on the central Moscow Lomonóvit Avenue.

On behalf of the countries of the Bolivarian Alliance for the peoples of Our America Alba-TCP, both leaders deposited a floral offering in the equestrian sculpture of the Latin American hero.

Maduro highlighted the importance he has for the nations of Latin America and the Caribbean to be present in the Euroasymatic giant in the celebrations for the 80th anniversary of the Soviet victory over Nazi Germany.

In this regard, he exalted the historical and human value of the citizens of the countries of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics for the defense of humanity by putting the lives of 27 million people to save the world of World War II.

For his part, the Cuban head of state urged young Venezuelans, present at the event, who study at Russian universities, to follow the thread of history in order to be prepared for the defense of the sovereignty of nations.

"To the Russian people of the Venezuelan people on the occasion of the celebration of the 240 years of the birth of the Liberator Simón Bolívar," reads the pedestal installed in the same place where, in 2010, Commander Hugo Chávez (1954-2013) placed the first stone during his visit to Moscow.

After the symbolic act both presidents filed a dialogue to analyze the course of bilateral links and the consolidation of the Cuban-Venezuelan brotherhood.
