China Rejects US Coercion, Reaffirms Support for Cuba Against Embargo
especiales

China on Thursday rejected coercive tactics and pressures exerted by the United States on other nations, while reiterating its support for Cuba against the blockade Washington has imposed for over 60 years.
In response to a question from Prensa Latina, the spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Guo Jiakun, stated that the North American nation not only fails to reflect on its actions but is intensifying its policy of coercion, which violates international law, the basic principles of international relations, and humanitarian law.
He emphasized that this stance places the United States against justice and equity, which will generate widespread opposition from the international community.
He indicated that China firmly opposes the US blockade and has voted in favor of the Cuban resolution at the United Nations (UN) General Assembly for 32 consecutive years, since 1992.
He added that nearly 190 countries support this resolution, clearly evidencing the world's majority position.
Guo reiterated China's support for the right of the Cuban people to choose their own development path, defend their sovereignty, and reject external interference.
He pointed out that Washington should adopt concrete measures to improve its relations with Havana and contribute to peace and stability in the region.
On multiple occasions, the Chinese Foreign Ministry has urged the United States to lift the blockade as soon as possible and to remove the island from the so-called list of State Sponsors of Terrorism.
Since 1992, the UN General Assembly has annually approved the resolution presented by Cuba against the US embargo.
Cuba Accuses US of Intimidation Tactics
The Cuban Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodríguez, emphasized the previous day that the United States is resorting to intimidation and blackmail tactics to undermine international support for lifting the blockade, in a maneuver he described as a disrespectful offensive.
During a press conference in Havana, the Foreign Minister emphasized that the actions of the US government violate the sovereignty of States and the right of each nation to decide its vote freely in the UN General Assembly.
Rodríguez presented copies of official communications sent by Washington to numerous governments in which, he claimed, "crude pressures, direct threats, and slanderous arguments" are used to dissuade countries, particularly from Latin America and Europe, from continuing their support against the economic, commercial, and financial siege.
Furthermore, he detailed that Washington's pressure includes third countries refusing to supply spare parts or fuel to Cuba, as recently occurred with one of the country's main thermoelectric plants, directly affecting the national electrical system.
