President Diaz-Canel contratulates Radio Rebelde on 65th anniversary

Havana, Feb 24 (Prensa Latina) Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel on Friday congratulated the workers of Radio Rebelde, which was created by the Argentinean-Cuban guerrilla Ernesto Che Guevara 65 years ago.

Greetings and congratulations to all those who support the mystique, history and present of the station founded by Che in the heart of the Sierra Maestra, the head of State wrote on his Twitter account.

My congratulations to the founders and their professional heirs who are also his revolutionary heirs, he added.

In another tweet, the Cuban president sent a hug to the workers of Radio Rebelde, and called them to stay ahead in every way: professionalism, technology and, above all, commitment.

On February 24, 1958, Radio Rebelde started broadcasting and communicating the first war report on the combat in Pino del Agua and other actions by Che’s guerrilla column.

During the armed struggle against the Fulgencio Batista dictatorship, La voz de la Sierra Maestra (The voice from Sierra Maestra), as it was known, broadcast war reports, information, as well as orders and guidance from the rebel leaders throughout the country.

At present the station broadcasts an essentially informative programming 24 hours a day on radio. It has correspondents throughout the country and international reach.
