ART ON THE NET: Chaos
especiales
The viewer does not try to find logic and references in this painting other than those of total chaos. Oppressive, burdensome, destabilizing abstraction... Anguishing and unstable framework. Madness or depression.
His wife’s death plunged Eduardo Abela into inconsolable sadness. Art was one of his strongest supports. By late 1940s he ventured into abstractionism as a way to express his trauma. This piece was one of his experiments.
The artist avoided rationalizing the pain. He clarified that the painting did not represent themes of known things or forms. The ineffable, the intertwine of a crisis realized in ocher, disturbing tones. As if you could touch, feel, breathe the nightmare.
