Posthumous tribute to prominent Cuban diplomat: Abelardo Moreno Fernandez

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez on Monday led a posthumous tribute to the recently deceased distinguished Cuban diplomat, Abelardo Moreno Fernández.
The Cuban foreign minister wrote on the social network X: "We pay tribute to his tireless work in defense of the Homeland and the Revolution, dedication and talent that have made him a key figure in Revolutionary Diplomacy."
Moreno Fernández, recognized as one of the most illustrious figures in Cuban diplomacy, died in this capital at the age of 80 on April 19, while still working as an advisor to the island's foreign minister.
Abelardo, as his colleagues called him, began his work at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1961 and had a distinguished career that led him to hold various positions in the domestic and foreign services, eventually becoming Deputy Minister (2000-2019).
He served on permanent missions in Cuba's representations to international organizations based in Geneva and to the United Nations in New York, serving as Ambassador and Permanent Representative at the latter.
He represented his country at numerous international meetings and led complex negotiating processes, for which he was recognized and respected by his colleagues and colleagues around the world.
His achievements included his contribution to the success of the 14th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement in 2006 and the 2nd Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States.
He also served as a member of Cuba's presidencies over these important mechanisms, which contributed to the international projection of this Caribbean nation and its leadership at the global and regional levels.
Abelardo Moreno Fernández earned an honorary doctorate from the Raúl Roa García Higher Institute of International Relations, where he was a visiting professor.
He had published books and articles on various topics, including "International Negotiation: The Art and Science of the Negotiation Process," 2021, and "The Non-Aligned Movement. Foundations, History, and Identity. A Cuban Vision," 2023.
