Matanzas, Dec 23 (RHC) Cuba's Minister of Public Health, José Ángel Portal Miranda, verified progress in priority works of the sector in the western province of Matanzas, during a tour carried out the day before

Portal Miranda learned about the construction progress at the "José Ramón López Tabranes" Provincial Maternity Hospital, where new areas are being built, such as those for birth registration and statistics, as well as the waiting room, the ultrasound and X-ray room.

Yamira López García, director of the institution, informed that the center managed to strengthen a team of high-quality professionals, which had a direct impact on infant mortality reduction of 1.7 per thousand live births and maternal mortality, set at zero to date, after more than 3,500 births.

We must reinforce the work in primary health care, but once the pregnant woman arrives here, she must have the best care from our doctors, said Portal Miranda, who stressed that "we must do everything possible to prevent the death of mothers and newborns".

In a brief exchange with the directors of the "Comandante Faustino Pérez" and the "Eliseo Noel Caamaño" Pediatric Hospitals, the leader appreciated the spirit of transformation in both places, recognized for carrying the greatest weight in the medical attention of adults and minors, respectively.

He celebrated the almost completion of the International Medical Care area, support for foreign tourism that will provide services for the first time as of next January, and in the Faustino Pérez Hospital the new Multipurpose Intensive Care ward, with 12 capacities for seriously ill patients.

Norberto Ramos Iglesias, head of the Investment Department of the Provincial Health Directorate, explained that the works in the health sector will improve the comfort of cardinal facilities and highlighted the construction of a new operating room in the "Julio Aristegui Villamil" Hospital in the municipality of Cárdenas.
